The Christmas Tree



In this season you can witness the Christmas tree everywhere like; homes, shopping malls, markets etc. In ancient times, people hung evergreen trees branches and leaves on their doors and windows to keep evil spirits away, which paved way for the Christmas Tree as we know it today. The tradition of the Christmas tree was originated from Germany and the first Christmas tree ever was set up in 1419 and after that people started bringing decorated trees into their homes.

  • The first artificial Christmas tree was made in Germany with dyed goose feathers.
  • The first Christmas tree ever to be decorated was in Riga, Latvia in 1531.

  • The annual Rockefeller Centre Christmas Tree tradition in New York began in 1933. This tree is around 1000 feet tall and is decorated with a 550-pound Swarovski crystal star!
  • Edward Johnson, Thomas Edison’s assistant, came up with the idea of lighting up a Christmas tree with electric lights in 1882. Before that Christmas Trees used to be illuminated with candles.
