History

The world’s first cat cafe was opened in Taiwan in 1998 and located in Taipei. In very small time it was very popular in Japan and attracts many Japanese tourists as well as domestic visitors. In Japan, the first cat cafe opened in Osaka in 2004. Cat cafes are very popular in Japan and now springing up across the globe. A number of cat friendly cafes have opened in Europe and even plans to open in the U.S.

Cat cafes are very popular in Japan. If you visit Tokyo, you can find at least 39 cat cafes. The first cat cafe was Cat’s Store which opened in 2005 by Norimasa Hanada. There are various types of cat cafes with featured specific categories of cat such as black cats, fat cats, rare breed cats or ex-stray cats. All cat cafes have a legal license and comply with the strict requirements and regulations of the Animal Treatment/Protection Law. They strictly ensure about the cleanliness, cats are not disturbed by excessive and unwanted attention.

Middle East

Cat’s Royalty Dubai Cat Cafe, is a famous cat cafe located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It was the first cafe with freely moving cats opened in 2009 and then few more branches opened in 2013. Each cafe has a combination of little cozy cafe, a cats club and a cat therapy hall. There are 20 cat therapies of various breeds working there & meeting guests. Cat Cafes are very popular in Asia also. In Korea, there is a cat cafe chain called “Cat Attic” with 9 different locations in Seoul and Busan. Norie Cat Cafe opened in November 2012 in Cheonan-si and Chungcheongnam-do with around 20 cats.

In Malaysia the famous cat cafe is “Purrfect Cat Cafe” opened in February 2014 and located in Georgetown, Penang.

In Bangkok, the Purr Cat Cafe Club is very popular and its boasts fourteen Persians as well as a cat beautician and outfit shop.

In Chiang Mai, the first cat cafe is Catmosphere Cat Cafe. It features 12 cats as well as a space theme with space-cat related artwork.

In Singapore, the Neko no Niwa is the first cat cafe at Clarke Quay and the second Cat cafe was opened on 22 June 2014.

In Spain, “La Gatoteca” was opened on October 15 2013 in Madrid.

In France, “Le Cafe des Chats” was opened on September 21st 2013 in Paris.

In UK, “Totnes Cat Cafe” was opened on May 2013 in South Devon.

In Lithuania, “Cat Cafe Kaciu kavine will open in Vilnius in August 2014.

In Italy, “Neko Cafe” was opened in Torino on 5 April 2014.

Australia

Cat Cafe Melbourne is the first cat cafe in Australia and it was opened in Melbourne in July 2014.
